Rader Quartet wins Gold and Haydn Prizes

Congratulations to the Rader Quartet – Theo Bockhorst, Ethan Mayer, Jacob Sheldon and Alex Cho. On April 25, 2020, they were awarded BOTH Gold Medal and Haydn Prize from the St. Paul String Quartet Competition. Brilliant performances of the 1st movement of Haydn Quartet in G Major Op. 76 #1, 1st movement of the Mendelssohn Quartet #3 in D Major Op. 44 and the 1st movement of the Ginastera Quartet #1 Op. 20.

Both Theo Bockhorst, violin, and Ethan Mayer, violin, study with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra First Violinist Joo Kim, and both attend Clayton High School. Jacob Sheldon, viola, studies with Arianna String Quartet Violist Joanna Mendoza, and attends Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Alex Cho, cello, studies with former St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Assistant Principal Cellist Catherine Lehr-Ramos, and attends Marquette High School.

Last year in 2019, the Rader Quartet won both Silver Medal and Haydn Prize from the St. Paul String Quartet Competition, as well as reaching the Semi-finals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

The members of the Rader Quartet are all members of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and have won numerous prizes and awards as soloists with community and regional orchestras.
