An Evening with Leonard Slatkin

The St. Louis County Library Foundation and Chamber Music Society of St. Louis collaborated to celebrate the release of a new book by Maestro Leonard Slatkin, “Classical Crossroads: The Path Forward for Music in the 21st Century,” with an event held at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., on September 13th, 2021.

The evening, Co-Chaired by Gerry and Judy Jehling and hosted by Jim and Mary Forsyth, began at 5:30pm. Sponsors and VIP ticket holders were given the opportunity to meet the Maestro and have a copy of his book autographed.

A Public Book Discussion and Concert was held at 7:00pm. Mr. Slatkin led a conversation centering on “Classical Crossroads,” and was joined by John Clare, Classic 107.3 CEO/GM. Chamber Music Society of St. Louis musicians performed Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter” (with Mr. Slatkin as soloist), along with works by Gershwin and Haydn, and a pre-recorded video performance of Charles Ives’ “Variations on America” was shown.
